BULIMIA NERVOSA

Abstract
According to the diagnostic criteria of DSMER, Bulimia Nervosa(BN) is an eating disorder, with the essential features of reccurent episodes of binge eating, a feeling of lack of control over eating behavior during the binges, self-induced vomiting, use ¢¥of laxatives or diuretics, strict dieting or fasting, or vigorous excercise in order to prevent weight gain and persistent over-concern with body shape and weight.
The authors experienced two cases of BN which satisfied the diagnostic criteria of DS,M)l{R: They were transferred under the diagnosis of "neurosis" from the internists because of unsatisfactory treatment response to supportive medical treatment. The psychiatric symptoms were depressed mood, sense of helplessness and hopelessness, self-depreciating thoughts that is thought to be symptoms of Depressive Disorder in DSM-]I-R.
Both cases received tricyclic antidepressant imipramine 150mg-300mg per day and showed good responses such as decreased frequency of eating impulses and decreased episodes of binge eating. From these case experiences and literature re-view, it appeared to be important to emphasize psychiatric consultation for this, eating disorder patients who usually comes to internists.
